Hummus is an absolute go-to and after realising how much healthier, cheaper and tastier it was to make myself I never went back to the store-bought kind. One of the best things about making hummus yourself is that you can throw in any flavours you fancy, here I used basil but I also love adding sun-dried tomatoes or black olives.

Basil Hummus

Basil Hummus

Fragrant, healthy, basil hummus, ready in just 2 minutes!

Ingredients

  • 1 can chickpeas  (drain & rinse)
  • 2 tbsp good quality tahini
  • 2–4 tablespoons cold water  (your consistency preference)
  • 2  tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 garlic cloves, 
  • juice of 1 lemon 

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients, bar the cold water, and puree on high for 2 minutes pausing halfway to scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  2. Add in one tablespoon of water at a time and puree on high.
  3. Add another tablespoon or two of water until you reach the desired consitency
  4. Taste and season with additional salt, basil, or extra lemon juice if needed.
  5. Serve with a little olive oil and garnished with fresh basil.  
  6. Keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.
